TIPS & PARTY SUGGESTIONS FOR HIRING A CLOWN OR CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENT
- Clowns and entertainers for children are usually multi-talented. When booking entertainment for your next party, don't forget to ask the entertainer what they offer. If you just ask for a clown you may be missing some other talent that could add a lot of fun to the party!
- Clowns and certain kinds of characters often frighten small children. Carefully evaluate your child's reaction to large stuffed objects! You may be surprised to find out that the fluffy, colorful character your child views on TV becomes a monster in real person.
- A professional entertainer should be able to guide you carefully during your decision making process. They have many years of experience when it comes to dealing with children.
- It's always best to follow your instincts. If the entertainer you're speaking with is helpful, thorough and informative, you'll probably get some great entertainment. If the performer is abrupt, hasty to book the party and seems bothered by your questions then just look elsewhere. Attitude usually carries all the way through to the end.
- Clowns come in hundreds of variations. A picture is worth a thousand words. It's always a great idea to see what your entertainer will look like. Sometimes people perceive a certain image and get something different. Most performers have a variety of different kinds of costumes.
- Clowns, jesters, mimes, stiltwalkers, fire-eaters, jugglers, and magicians have two styles of entertainment available: strolling or a show. Usually these performers are very interactive and provide a lot of variety for your event. If you want the kids to sit and watch a performance then you should request a show. You can also ask performers to split their time and do some strolling and then a show. It's important to evaluate whether or not the kids will sit long enough for a scheduled ShowTime.
- Bubblemakers, puppeteers, jump ropers and ventriloquists usually do best with only performing in a show situation. However, there are always exceptions that vary depending on the performer. Always ask a lot of questions before making your entertainment selections.
- Face painting is very popular with kids. Most clowns and other entertainers do some kind of face painting. The paint should be non-toxic and easy to wash off later.
- Cartoon characters are usually licensed and cannot be legally replicated by entertainers. Some companies license the rights to use the character's image. Many entertainment companies and performers have run into legal issues over certain character images such as Barney, The Power Rangers, Disney characters, etc. If a performer tells you they cannot legally provide you with the character they are most likely telling you the truth.
